What is your favorite band/bands and why?
In order to spice the place up a little bit to get it back on a decent activity track, I decided it was time for a topic like this. So yes, discuss which band(s) is your favorite, and why.
For me, I have a few, but 5 of them stand out the most for me.
#1 - Aerosmith

Aerosmith to me is a fantastic group with great talent in it. Of course, Steven Tyler, the lead singer, can be a bit of a drug-loaded idiot sometimes, but the music is what's important to me. My only regret is not being able to see these fellas live, since it looks like they're about to call it quits. My favorite song by them is F.I.N.E, off of my favorite album by them, Pump.
#2 - Rage Against the Machine

I love these guys because pretty much every one of their songs get me into a bit of a grooving mood. Their guitarist is amazing for coming up with riffs like he does. I could listen to these fellas for days. I have a hard time choosing a favorite song, though Testify, Renegades of Funk, Killing in the Name of, and Bulls on Parade stand out for me.
#3 - RUSH

If there has been any example of how to perfectly manage a band, it's been shown by these guys. They've kept the same members throughout nearly their entire career, have dozens of amazing albums, and are able to tell stories with their songs; seriously, listen to all of 2112 when you have the time, it's a great story. My favorite song by them is Limelight. I have seen these guys live, once.
#4 - Foo Fighters

I love these guys more than any 'modern' band out there. They play the old stuff with a new twist on it, and they're absolutely hilarious for their videos and performances. I love all of their songs, but Long Road to Ruin and Learn to Fly are my favorites by them. I have seen them live once (though it wasn't the concert where Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from RUSH came on stage and played YYZ with the Foo Fighter's drummer, Taylor Hawkins
).
#5 - Nobuo Uematsu

So it's not really a band, but this man is amazing. I love me a good composer, and this man is among the very best. I've never heard something by him that I did not like. Everything he does rings true for me. I find it impossible really to decide a favorite song by him, but if I absolutely had to choose, it would either be Battle with Seymour, Esper Battle, or The Extreme.

*Cracks knuckles* Alright, I've give this a whack. My top artist are prone to change, mind you, but some stay pretty consistant. Also, beware of Walls of Text, 'cause I ramble.
#1) Voltaire

Not a band, but a man. One very awesome man, who really knows how to wear a hat. His songs vary between really sweet and sad, and really funny, and often are both. Plus, the music has a really Olde Tyme Gypsy-pirate feel, with the violin, accordion and cello. With albums like, "Riding a Black Unicorn Down an Erupting Volcano While Drinking A Chalice Filled With the Laughter of Small Children," How could I _not_ love him?
Favourite Song: All of them, but I'll name "Almost Human", "Blue-Eyed Matador" and "Hell In A Hand Basket"
#2) Mudvayne

Yeah. These guys. I don't rightly know what it is -- All of their songs just seem to hit me -- it just feels right. They write their music to involve riffs chosen via numbers symbolism directly related to the song's subject matter -- That's the kind of needlessly complex symbolism I can appreciate. They blend elements of Progressive Rock, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal and Hardcore Punk into something they called "math metal", (the number symbolism again) and to me, it is wonderful. Unlike the others in this list, The mood is also pretty consistent -- most songs are either despair or rage, but there are enough shreds of hope there to keep me from getting totally bummed out.
Favourite Songs: "Pharmacopoeia", "Scream With Me", "All Talk", "Burn the Bridge"
3) Green Day

This is all about nostalgia, baby -- Green Day was the first band I ever got into, way back in the day, and it's sort of a 'first love' thing going on here. The music's become a part of my life in a way. I still own every CD they've ever produced. Again, they have a good range to choose from, from the light-hearted early days to the heavier stuff of today. I love variety in my artists, you see. Speaking of variety....
Favourite Songs: "21st Century Breakdown", "No One Knows", "Are We The Waiting"
4) Renard (and aliases)

...We have Renard, who is a perfect example of Multiple Personalities. Renard is self-published under Lapfox Trax, and well...All 20 Lapfox artists are Renard under different names. He released 26 albums in 2010 alone. In truth, I didn't like Techno or Noise Music at all until I found Lapfox Trax. But it sort of broke the barrier, so to speak. Plus, psycho-nurse-foxcoon. Again, how could I _not_ love?
Favourite songs: "Painkiller", "Sinisterrrr", "A Strange Turn Of Events", "Terrible Ride", "Bookworm"
5) Metallica

The One. The Only. Another one that's been with me for years. They're just like a pillar of classic Metal to me, not something I think very much about but always there. Like an old favourite shirt or something.
