New Sonic Game on the Horizon!

What's this? A Sonic-Related post on the Sonic Family? BLASPHEMY, I say!
Kidding. On to the news;
I recently saw a trailer for a new Sonic game, one that pleasantly surprised me. Here's the video.

The common name for it as of now is 'Sonic Generations', and with our current info as a guide, it shall be released for the PS3 and XBOX 360 (With possibilities of Kinect!) The release date is unclear, but our best bet is some time in 2011, though it's debatable.
Thoughts/Questions? Please post below!
I myself am rather excited, but I'm not going to put my hopes up too high, since Sonic 4 was an indication that getting your hopes up for a new Sonic is pretty dicey. Still, it looks great, and I can't wait for these two to appear in a game together. It's a very promising concept.

New Sonic Game on the Horizon! :: Comments

What's this? Two Sonics? It's as if they're trying to separate the Sonic VG franchise into two different "universes": classic Sonic (1-2-S&K3) and the newer ones... and make them collide. If that's the case, then I don't know for what reason would they do that. To please both oldschool and nextgen fans? I think it would just add to the confusion.

Not really, but what I found is that you can end up playing both. I really don't know why but here something kinda close to what I'm saying:

To tell the truth, I like the Newgen better, not that I'm saying the old one is good. I also herad that Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, Eggman, Chip (for some unknown reason), Silver, Egg Robo, and classic Metal Sonic are going to be in it, but I'm not so sure about it yet (or at less not positive yet).

When I first saw the screenshots recently posted on Sonic Channel, I was like "WTF, the scenery looks like as if it was made out of plasticine". Looks better in motion, though, thanks for linking the video, G. Still, I'm quite pessimistic, I'm not convinced that this would turn out to be more than a slightly-above-average title.

Hmm... I wonder what it'd be like if Sonic Team decided to develop a Sonic game much more similar to the ones released on Genesis. Sprite graphics and such, kinda like Capcom's Megaman 9 and 10.

I dunno. I sort of like the idea. To me, this game is what Sonic 4 SHOULD'VE been.

With a thorough storyline, I think the game will make enough sense as far as the two universes colliding. As far as it being some sort of a time paradox, there have been PLENTY in the franchise.
I'm actually looking forward to this one. The graphics are clean and well-done, SEGA seems to have a clear idea of what they're aiming for in the fandom.

I see it as, bringing fans together, in a sense. Razz The Newgen fans, and the Classic fans, are often catergorized separately, as if Sonic were two different people. Newgen fans, do like the oldies, but much rather enjoy the graphics and technological advances of today's modern world, and associate that with Sonic. Classics fans, would much rather take a blast to the past, then get very much absorbed in the new generation. And that's okay.

But, as I was getting at, I see this as a unity of fandoms. It brings an essence of the new generation Sonic and collaborates with the Classic Sonic style. As separate as some are when it comes to Sonic, what matters is, we all still love that blue hedgehog, despite who he is and what he is.

-steps off podium-

Anyways, this game looks great, IMO. ;D

-slow clap-
EPIC. Thank you for linking this. After seeing the Sonic Unleashed-like gameplay, I can safely say I'm looking forward to getting this bad boy.

I second that. I'm loving the gameplay! ;D

They got the side-scrolling for the Classic Sonic, and the third-person viewpoint for the Modern Sonic. ^^

I cannot wait for this one! Razz And lucky for me, it's actually FOR Xbox 360! =P

I'm not sure if Sega does have a clear idea of what they're aiming for. First, they release Sonic 4 with the subtitle "Episode 1" and since it didn't live up to most peoples' expectations, they abandon Episode 2 and start the development of something else (Sonic Generations, that is). I'm also puzzled why this wouldn't be released for Wii, since the Wii already has exclusive Sonic titles. Odd business policy, if you ask me. (Although, some of us here aren't fond of the Wii... right, Alex? XD)

(Indeed. It's nice of them to actually release something for Xbox, I mean, DEAR LORD. Dx Tired of seeing Sonic for Wii, and me not being able to play.)

@Gheroes

What confused you?

Classic Sonic is supposed to have side-scrolling gameplay, and Modern Sonic is supposed to have third-person gameplay. It's to follow their gameplay styles.
